Understanding the Styles of Wedding Photography

Unsure of the photography style you need for those perfect moments? Check out this easy guide inspired by the Vendor Table Podcast.

What are we? We change a little throughout the day, but we primarily fall under lifestyle + natural with a flair of editorial (when requested) and photojournalistic for your reception.

  • Designed to give more of the traditional old school look (look at the camera, look at each other), traditional photographers tend to have a true to color, with minimal editing and less creative posing.

  • Very posed, very classic with a high-end fashion twist. These images tend to be very staged and will normally require significantly more time than other styles of photography.

  • These photographers offer a lot of guidance and do more prompting, rather than posing, often incorporating motion to help keep couples feeling comfortable. This is a very unforced style of photography designed to create more genuine captures.

  • This is more of an editing style than a shooting style and is normally complemented with one of the other styles listed here, but this soft and whimsical, light and bright photography is designed to have a painterly look to it in a watercolor, pastel sense.

  • Movie feeling. Romcom vibe. A lot of movement, a lot of blurry images and tilted horizons. This style is designed to have a nostalgic feeling. Many photographers in this style often incorporate film cameras into their packages as well.

  • Fly on the wall. This style of photographer is there to capture the moments as they unfold. They are not going to stop you, pose you, and quite often not stop couples for anything, even for family photos. This is designed to be a completely candid, completely hands-off wedding photography.
